The NCAA D-1AA Football schedule is out.

And it would be so wrong and/or impossible to have the winner determined on the field in D-1A as well... why?

According to the New York Times, the second best team in the country is...

Texas.

Still think polls are more valid just because a "computer" created them?

A BCS bowl game numbers study.

There have been 20 BCS bowl games played to date (the BCS began with the 1998 season). These are the margins-of-victory in the 20 games, least to greatest (CG = BCS Championship Game):

7 (2OT; CG)

The average margin-of-victory (OTs counted as 0 points) in the non-championship games is 15.8 points. The average margin-of-victory in the championship games is 11.6 points. While the overall competitiveness of the BCS has been very poor, averaging a nearly 2 touchdown rout, the championship games, or, the only quasi-"playoff" game each year, is on average, over 4 points closer (despite a couple years where the #1 team played a highly disputed #2). It will be interesting to see if this trend continues... especially this year with the #1 team being one that many say is one of the best in a long time.
