It all comes down to Michigan.

With Miami surviving Pittsburgh, what will probably be its hardest challenge for the remainder of the season, it appears that Michigan is the final hope to create yet another problem-filled year for the BCS. If Michigan loses, the Fiesta Bowl is in all likelihood Miami vs. Ohio State. All this does is postpone the inevitable nightmare for the BCS for one more year (as if the past 2 haven't been horrendous and unfair enough by themselves). But what is even worse is we will all get to hear endless blather from Terry Bowden, John Saunders, and other ABCESPNBCS employees and BCS proponents about how the system has "worked." Worked... right... more on that at some other time, but just remember... if this system works so well, why aren't fans of all the other sports in the world, which all have playoffs, yelling for their sport to switch to a computer system to pick who the two best teams are? The idea is actually comical to even suggest.

One more thing... under the old system, which was at least better than the BCS in that it didn't lie in claiming to produce "undisputed" national champions, we would be looking at a January 1st with an Ohio State/Washington State rematch in the Rose Bowl and Miami/Oklahoma in the Orange Bowl. I'd rather watch those games and their re-runs 1 million times before I'd care to watch a Miami/Ohio State Fiesta Bowl claiming to be for an "undisputed" national championship.

Richard Cirminiello of CollegeFootballNews.com:

"The 2002 Iowa Hawkeyes should be the poster child for a playoff in college football. Even though they haven’t lost in more than two months and may be one of the two or three best teams in the country, they’re chance for a national title is virtually nil. Just doesn’t make any sense."
